Potter Yachter Events for 2000

Here's the Event Calendar for 2000. Some of the dates need to be confirmed, but I thought you'd like to mark your calendars! Many of the events will work for daysailing if you can't stay overnight. Additional Daysailing events will be added to the calendar in the future. Dory Taylor will be publishing an additional schedule of Daysails tailored specially for P15-ers.

Details on parking, slip fees, etc will be published soon.

THESE ARE PRELIMINARY PLANS, SUBJECT TO CHANGE. DETAILS WILL FOLLOW!

Feb 26-27: Oakland Estuary & SF Bay - The Oakland Estuary is a great place for both new and experienced skippers. Launch at 9 am from Grand Av ramp in Alameda . Saturday: Daysailing on the estuary for newer skippers. Experienced skippers will head to Ballena Bay in Alameda for lunch at the Whales Tail restaurant. Overnight at the Marina Village Yacht Harbor, across from Jack London Square. Dinner at London Square on the opposite side of the Estuary or dine on your yacht. (The guest docks at Jack London Square should be operational by then). Daysailing on Sunday, with morning practice session on "heaving to" taught by Jerry Barrilleaux on the estuary. Depending on wind direction, experienced skippers may make the short trip to Clipper Cove, between Treasure Is. and Yerba Buena Is. There's a beautiful, sheltered sandy beach there. It's also a great place to practice anchoring.

March 11-12 Brunos Island in the heart of the Delta Launch at B&W Marina at 9 am and sail 5 miles up to Bruno's Island. Bruno's is a comfy marina with slips and RV parking. Barbeque in the picnic ground on Saturday night. Explore the Delta Saturday and Sunday. P15's can launch from Bruno's ramp.

April 8-9 Millerton Lake In the Sierra National Forest. Lake sailing, marina slips, camping available.

May 6-7 Stockton on the Delta - Annual Ditch Run We will be launching at Buckley Cove. Our annual "Ditch Run" to Windmill Cove is a very informal 3 1/2 mile upwind race to the cove. We will be staying the night at Windmill Cove or Lost Isle, or in the anchorage across the channel. We might take a side trip to Herman and Helens Restaurant for lunch on Sunday, it's about eight miles upriver from Windmill cove. If you can't make it both days, make it a daysail.

May 21 Salt and Pepper Day Sail, Oakland Estuary

June 3-4 Woodward Reservoir, near Oakdale, CA. Beautiful reservoir with camping factilities. An annual tradition. Pot-luck Barbeque Saturday night.

July 15-16 2nd Annual SCA Cruiser Challenge, Oakland Estuary.

August 12-13 Lake Tahoe (tentative date)

Sept 9-10: Richmond Marina on SF Bay to Loch Lomand (San Rafael) and Angel Island. Launch at Richmond Marina at 9 am. Expereinced skippers can leave early Saturday to sail approx 6 nautical miles to Loch Lomand Marina in San Rafael on San Pablo Bay, exploring the town at lunch time, dine at the Fo'csle Restaurant. Timing the tides is essential, or else you'll be running aground as you head into Loch Lomand. Navigational care is required to stay in the channel too. We'll beating home against the wind but with the current. New skippers can sail inside Richmond Harbor, a great place to practice sailing skills. This is a neap tide, so it's one of the best weekends of the summer to head to Loch Lomand. Sunday, daysail to Angel Island for lunch. in Ayala Cove. Hiking, tours on the State Park on the island. If you can't make it for the whole weekend, make it a daysail.

October 7-8 Monterey Bay. One of the most gorgeous places the PY club has ever gone. Lots of night life and restaurants in Monterey.

Nov 4-5 Richmond Marina, SF Bay
